Colorful abstract painting of Werrong Beach in the royal national park south of Sydney, Australia.
Werrong Beach, New Year's Day
Oil and acrylic on canvas
40" x 40"
2019

A remote and secluded nude beach south of Sydney. The climb down to Werrong Beach passes a dramatic sandstone cliff before dropping into lush coastal rainforest of cabbage tree palms and ferns.

I’d been recovering from carpal tunnel surgery on my painting hand, and decided to use my non-dominant (left) hand to paint this landscape. The abstract was painted using my dominant (right) hand pre-op. It has been an ongoing experiment on a spare canvas that I’ve been scraping paint onto at the end of painting days over the last year.

I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land throughout Australia, and recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community. I pay respect to Elders past and present.

This painting has already found a good home!
